Greetings from the Panhellenic Council!

Welcome to the University of Hawai'i!  We are so excited to welcome you and your student.  College provides amazing opportunities for learning, personal growth, and relationship building.  We hope that the next several years are full of enjoyable and memorable moments that you can share with your student.

At the University of Hawaii, there are countless ways for your student to get involved.  While academic life is certainly the primary focus of your student’s time, involvement in activities and organizations is an important part of the collegiate experience.  The sorority community here is known for excellence and is a great way for your student to enhance her undergraduate experience.

Joining a sorority provides an immediate connection to a close-knit group of women, helping to make UHM feel a little bit smaller and a little bit more like home.  Sorority life also provides opportunities for leadership, scholastic support, community service, and philanthropy.  Sorority women are some of  most active leaders on campus and can introduce your student to the multitude of other student organizations and leadership opportunities.  Participation is a great way to ensure a well-rounded undergraduate experience.

Your student is about to embark on one of the greatest adventures of her lifetime.  We hope that the sorority experience will be part of that journey.

Benefits of Sorority Membership

Coming to college is one of the major life changes that your student will experience; joining a sorority chapter can help make the transition easier.  The sorority experience is multifaceted and offers numerous opportunities. Developing life-long friendships can help make the campus seem smaller.  For many members, our organizations become a home away from home.  In addition to the sisterhood, every chapter is dedicated to enhancing leadership, scholarship, philanthropy/service and financial responsibility through enrichment programs and opportunities.  It will be up to your student to determine the level of involvement they want to have in the organization and what kind of experience it will be for them.

The friendships your student will make can also last beyond her college years.  Sororities are international networks for members to use for securing jobs and advancing their careers. Membership is a life-long experience, and now can be an investment in your student’s future that will reap benefits for a lifetime.  Wherever a member resides after college, chances are she will find other members of her sorority.

While the recent COVID-19 pandemic has changed the collegiate experiences of many, "a recent research study conducted by the Postsecondary Education Research Center at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, shows that 84% of sorority women felted connected to their sorority peers during the COVID-19 pandemic." Joining a sorority, even virtually, can provide even more than just friendships and connections. Additional benefits are listed here below:
